During a workshop in Islamabad with provincial and federal staff of the veterinary services, we discussed the options for progressive FMD control in Pakistan. Contracted by University of Liverpool to address a question of FAO-Pakistan.

Four days of intensive and pleasent engagement with private and public sector on options for the next steps to mitigate the impact of FMD. It included a one-day expert consultation to parameterize a cost-effectiveness model. Unique, yet extremely valuable to not just discuss options but to provide cost-benefit analysis concurrently. Great work by Nick Lyons.

Great to see initiatives around FMD control in Pakistan—this kind of work is vital for protecting livestock and ensuring food security. As a business operating as an online pet store Pakistan, we believe that strong animal health systems benefit everyone, including pet owners. Ensuring farm animal well-being helps reduce risks of zoonotic diseases, which ultimately supports healthier environments for both pets and people. Kudos to the team for the cost-benefit modelling and expert consultation.
